Announcing, the 2024 Summer Programs!

**Each program is designed as a separate but connected program, so writers may take part in one, two, or more camps!

June 17-21--"Rock Your Plot" 5-day FANTASY & FICTION CAMP

This is a camp for our fiction lovers, not limited to only fantasy fans! Writers can be ages 7-16.

Fantasy/Fiction Camps

With Resident-Author & Editor, Ellen McGinty, supporting our writers!

Campers can be burgeoning writers or already consider themselves dedicated and naturally talented! This is a camp for those who want to discover amazing ideas and rock it, not getting lost or overwhelmed in the details, but sailing forward with excitement and speed!

We are bound for greatness with featured fantasy and YA author and editor, Ellen McGinty, supporting us! With Ellen, writers understand the elements of story and how to plot their own. We'll build and edit stories using log lines, premise, professional plotting methods like Save the Cat, and the building blocks of story that allow our ideas and drafts to click into place with power! Games, snacks, and park outings keep our minds fresh, while we dream up our wildest, most solid plot! Writers receive specific feedback on their own short story from Melissa and from our resident-author, Ellen!

Saints and Monsters, now available for here!

Cost: 10,000 yen per day plus tax/50,000 yen for 5 days plus tax.

July 1-12--"Story Beats" 10-day FANTASY & FICTION CAMP

This is a camp for fantasy fans and fiction lovers! Writers can be ages 7-16.

They can be burgeoning writers or already consider themselves dedicated and talented!

What do we do with our ideas? This camp will help us identify the ideas that light us up and then help our writers move forward with their story elements! This 10-day camp features the work & teaching of Resident-Author, Ellen McGinty, alongside Tokyo Kids Write Founder, Melissa Uchiyama, allowing for more time to go deeper!

Creativity meets surefire ways for writers to move forward! Discover and adopt the same idea of Story Beats that makes Ellen's work a success, blockbuster movies, and video games worth watching again and again! Our writers can express their beats using paper and ink, paint, walls of stickers, and more---science, art, and writing all come together for our creative campers. Writers receive specific feedback on their own short stories from Melissa and from our resident author, Ellen!

We will use our understanding of story beats plus many other skills to edit our short story anthology of fantasy and fiction! This camp anthology will be made into a gorgeous, keepsake book, followed by a fantastical authors’ reading party!

Cost: 10,000 yen per day plus tax/100,000 yen for 10 days plus tax.

Aug 19-27— 7-day DRAMA AND WRITING CAMP featuring actress, Kristen Watts, and actress/director, Claire Allsbrook alongside Founder, Melissa Uchiyama

Our Campers can be ages 7-16.

This is a camp for those who crave the stage or those who have stories and scenes just waiting to emerge—We utilize our stage, curtains, professional sound and lighting to bring our words to life in a culminating show! Picture improv and writing short acts and scripts, and gaining a taste of what it means to create set design and costumes! Picture local outings to help our budding creativity and theatre-based focus!

What is the difference between drama sessions? First of all, one is 7 wonderful days, while the other holds ten full days of growth and fun! Overall, participants will focus on script analyses, various acting techniques, improv, character building, playwriting/story beats, stage production, and so much FUN! Both sessions are designed to work in tandem, building off of the other!

Cost: 10,000 yen per day plus tax/70,000 yen for 7 days plus tax.

Again, all camps are designed to stand on their own, but they also build upon each other! The 7-day vs 10-day acting camps will have their own, unique components, ie one will feature our work with existing scripts and deeper acting while the other has us writing scripts and thinking like playwrights!
